Salesforce Will Spend $300M on Anthropic Tokens This Year to Build Claudeforce
Salesforce is putting roughly $300 million behind Anthropic tokens this year to power Claudeforce, an expanded strategic partnership that marks the first time Salesforce has attached its “force” suffix to another company’s product. The launch product, Salesforce in Claude, ships 37 prebuilt sales skills built jointly by the two companies — meeting preparation, deal health review, pipeline management — that let sellers and agents reason over live revenue context and take governed action directly inside Claude, without opening the Salesforce app. The mechanism underneath is “AIforce,” Salesforce’s enterprise harness exposing its data, workflows, business logic, and governance to agents through MCP servers, APIs, and CLI tools. It’s live now to select pilot customers, with a broader open beta planned for September. Salesforce also holds an existing stake in Anthropic valued at roughly $5 billion, and the company’s Q2 net income included a $2.6 billion investment gain tied in part to that position. CEO Marc Benioff: “We’re delivering a dynamic interface that thinks, reasons, and acts.”
Forrester’s read on the same announcement is the useful counterweight. Salesforce’s own agent product, Agentforce, has already reached $1.2 billion in annual recurring revenue — evidence of how fast agentic interfaces are being monetized across the CRM stack — but Forrester flags a specific operational risk: two separate pricing models running simultaneously, Anthropic’s inference costs and Salesforce’s MCP call costs, creating real potential for cost surprises. Its recommendation is blunt — build cost dashboards and optimization discipline before scaling usage, not after. Forrester’s guidance splits by audience too: regulated industries should hold off until compliance and audit features mature, Salesforce partners should adopt now to stay competitive, and adjacent functions like marketing and customer service should watch before committing.
The bigger shift Forrester names directly: the AI layer is becoming the primary interface, with Salesforce providing governance and Anthropic providing the reasoning engine underneath it — a genuine displacement of the native UI, not just an assistant bolted onto it.
